Trung Son Hydropower project schedules to close the diversion culvert for reservoir filling at the end of December 2017.
Hydropower reservoir filling is to use a dam to impound river water in a reservoir creating a water head for power generation. During reservoir filling, the environmental flow towards downstream will be reduced for a certain duration of time. When the water level in the reservoir reaches 145m, water will run through generator turbines to make them spin, which in turn will activate the generators to generate power. After that, the water will discharge to the Ma River to maintain the river flow.
The reservoir filling of Trung Son hydropower is expected to last for 20 days and according to valuation, the process will not cause serious impacts on the local communities.
Trung Son hydropower project has conducted number of preparation activities including social and environmental impacts assessment along downstream of the Ma River. The project has also carried out several consultations and communication campaigns to provide information through various communication channels such as telephone, leaflets, posters, meetings, loudspeaker etc. on the reservoir filling to local authorities, local communities and to every household. Key messages included the time, duration of reservoir filling, possible impacts on local communities, warnings and measures for prevention and protection. Thousands of leaflets have been delivered to every household, hundreds of posters have been put up, information has been broadcasted regularly through loudspeakers at every commune and village. A hotline telephone has also been provided so that people can get the latest instructions and the fastest support in the case of emergency.
