Livelihoods

Community livelihoods improvement plan (CLIP) is an important part of Resettlement, Livelihoods and Ethnic Minority Development Plan (RLDP) to improve, or at least restore, livelihoods and living standards of affected villages in the context of cultural diversity. Specifically, CLIP will cover all affected villages upstream of the main dam and bordering the reservoir with the purpose of restoring livelihoods which means not only restoring incomes but also restoring capacity in relation to various types of resources.

Program strategy

• Enhancement and improvement of existing farming systems for most of the households. Land-based livelihood activities are given priority. CLIP will offer affected households options to improve their farming systems and to increase their animal herds basing on land and water resources in their new locations;
• Diversification of non-agricultural occupations through vocational training for some young people, and provision of supports to local microenterprises that will create local employements. Through activities of employment creation, vocational training, CLIP can assist to retain, strengthen human resources. Making plan for creating opportunities to enable households to be connected to create a strong community.
• The project adopts gender mainstreaming as a key strategy for promoting gender equity, and for ensuring that women participate and that their needs are explicitly addressed in the decision-making process for development of activities. Both income-generation and employment opportunities for women will be developed
